Iago Moussalem’s inspirational story demonstrates how swimming can change lives. “I’m from a poor neighborhood in Brazil. Because of swimming, ten years ago I moved to the U.S., got a scholarship, attended college, and was able to bring my mother to the U.S. Swimming changed my life and my family’s lives.”
Iago’s Fitter & Faster camps have a focus on fundamentals. “When kids come to the camps, they’re there for technique. My goal is for them to swim as beautifully as they can; be efficient in the water, save energy, and move faster.” He likes teaching underwater dolphins (the 5th stroke) and more specifically, underwater kick counts. An essential part of short course racing, Iago says “Underwaters are something I really had to work on myself, and I like sharing what I’ve learned during my swimming career with clinic participants.”
As a team member and coach at Metro Atlanta Aquatic Club, Iago shares that consistent progress in swimming comes from practice and repetition. He says, “Do the simple stuff every day; that’s the hardest thing to do.”
