Antonio believes that true success in swimming depends on how hours of training are spent, a philosophy he developed through his own journey in the sport. He is skilled at teaching complex concepts in an understandable way, a talent he honed by helping his hometown coach since he was young. His goal is to provide instruction that swimmers will remember for years to come.
A pivotal moment in his career came when he qualified for Senior Nationals in South Africa. Competing in the same pool as his swimming heroes was a deeply humbling and motivating experience that fueled his desire to work harder. In addition to dedication, he credits his focus on underwater work and dives as key tactics that drastically improved his performance.
Antonio’s advice to young swimmers is to find their “why.” He stresses that a swimmer’s motivation must come from within, as swimming for others will only get you so far. Through swimming, he learned the value of pushing through uncomfortable moments and that doing things you don’t enjoy can lead you to where you want to be, in sports, academics, and in life.
