Mallory Jump is an accomplished swimmer with a unique collegiate swimming experience. Having swam at three colleges, she worked with three different coaches. She says, “I’ve gotten different coaching perspectives, and like to share with Fitter & Faster camp participants how unique perspectives can improve their swimming. Different coaches see different things and provide feedback in different ways. I tell camp participants to be flexible in how you receive coaching.”
That flexibility extends to Mallory’s swimming, as she touts physical flexibility as a key element in swimming. Mallory likes to talk about flexibility with Fitter & Faster camp participants, saying “A lot of people don’t think about flexibility. Flexibility is huge! For example, flexible hips help underwaters and a flexible upper body helps drive the chest down when swimming fly.” Flexibility and strong underwaters helped Mallory excel in butterfly, qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Trials in the 200 meter butterfly.
Mallory aims to connect with each participant at a Fitter & Faster camp. She says, “it’s my goal to talk to each swimmer, not just about their swimming, but about what they did over the weekend, what their favorite food is; it helps me connect with camp participants so that they are more open to receive my assessment of their swimming”. She also likes to make Fitter & Faster camps a fun learning experience, and truly enjoys working with children. She says, “I have a special place in my heart for young children, and try to incorporate working with kids into my career choices.” She tailors camps to age group swimmers, and strives to make the material relatable to young athletes as well as transferable to their own training.
