Phoebe Bacon is a two-time U.S. Olympian, two-time NCAA Champion, and one of the premier backstroke talents in the world. Hailing from Chevy Chase, Maryland, Phoebe built a reputation for explosive speed and infectious energy long before establishing herself on the global stage. Competing for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she dominated the collegiate landscape, capturing two individual NCAA titles in the 200-yard backstroke and earning multiple Big Ten Swimmer of the Year accolades.
On the international circuit, Phoebe has been a consistent force for Team USA. She captured an individual silver medal in the 200-meter backstroke at the World Aquatics Championships and anchored golden relay performances at the Short Course World Championships. Known across the swimming community for her vibrant personality and strong leadership, Phoebe has a natural gift for coaching. Growing up surrounded by younger siblings and cousins, she excels at connecting with youth athletes, breaking down world-class backstroke mechanics, and bringing an unmatched sense of joy to the pool deck.
I have always lived by a very simple motto: a happy swimmer is a fast swimmer. I truly believe that loving what you do is the ultimate key to performance, and because of that, you will never catch me walking onto a pool deck without a smile on my face. I bring a unique, high-energy, and fun perspective to teaching. My goal as a clinician is to introduce young athletes to elite technical adjustments and race tactics, while simultaneously creating a positive environment where they genuinely enjoy the learning process.
My swimming career has been shaped by countless transformative moments, and almost all of them stem from the hours spent working hard alongside my teammates and friends at practices and competitions. I have advanced as far as I have because I learned how to lean on my coaches and my teammates. Swimming demands a lot of hours, and the people surrounding you every day are the ones who are there to help you push through boundaries. I want to teach young swimmers how to build that same collaborative, supportive mindset with their own teams.
Teaching simply comes naturally to me. Because I grew up with younger siblings and younger cousins, I understand how kids think, how they absorb information, and how to keep them highly engaged. I love swimming and I am deeply grateful for everything it has given me. Sharing that lifelong passion with the next generation is incredibly rewarding to me, and I pride myself on being an approachable, strong leader who kids feel comfortable asking questions.
Through the sport of swimming, I have grown into a better leader, a better person, and a more resilient competitor. The lessons you learn between the lane lines shape your character long after you step off the podium. I want to help young athletes unlock their confidence, refine their skills, and fall in love with the journey just as I did.
