For many swimmers, burning cheeks, skyrocketing heart-rates, and throbbing calves are the tangible indicators of hard work that they seek each practice. They’re the ingredients to fast times, the markers in the lone road to success. Athletes are conditioned to believe in the productivity of pain and the grind that is competitive swimming, but what if there exists a different route?
What if there was a way to make swimming easier while also lowering your times? A way to cut through the water without fighting it? A way to feel so natural and at home in the pool that you slice through grueling drills with ease? That’s the approach that Olympian Staciana Winfield has chosen to adopt and introduce to her swimmers.
“I love sharing my knowledge of how to make swimming easier and faster based on the physics of force and energy, to impart secrets of breath and movement that help swimmers truly enjoy the sport and share my passion for the water.”
With an uncanny ability to foster engagement while breaking down strokes to their most fundamental parts, Staciana is a master in the mind-body connection, something she finds pivotal in advancing to the next level in swimming.
“Doing the details well consistently will create muscle memory that will allow you to perform in a race without thinking. I also like to teach breathing techniques that will keep swimmer’s heart rates down and their bodies calm, so that they can perform at their best.”
With her motto, “Work smarter not harder,” Staciana is an expert in presenting information in an unintimidating, easy-to-follow fashion that ensures her students’ understanding–all while fostering a swelling passion for the sport in each and every one of her participants.
“The best teacher I ever had was vulnerable and sincere. He showed me what it meant to be human and made things that seemed complicated simple by breaking the information down into manageable pieces. His concern for his students and passion for the subject made learning interesting and fun. I hope to create that environment when I teach, so each student can reach their own potential and believe that reaching their own potential is possible.”
In blending passion and an intellectual approach, Staciana is a thoughtful and articulate teacher who thrives on providing individualized attention and tailored critiques. With a burning desire to “guide swimmers to joy” while also helping them learn something new, Staciana is sure to provide you with one of her valuable “secrets” acquired in her 10,000 hours of training.
